Textile engineering (directions of textile fabrics, textile mechatronics, knitting and clothing, textile testing and business, textile design, textile and international trade, high-tech textiles)

This major trains multi-skilledengineering technology persons with the knowledge, ability and quality in textile engineering, those canadapt to the integrated development trends of textiles, materials, information, electromechanical, environment, management, art, trade marketing and other subjects. With the sense of innovation, practical skills and international perspective, and with expertise in a particular aspect of the textile, they can be engaged in technology development, textile and process design, production management, business trade and scientific research or other works in the textile field.

Main courses: engineering mechanics, fabric structure, spinning science, weaving science, dying and finishing of textiles, textile materials science, non-woven science, mathematical statistics, engineering design graphics, electrical and electronic technology and so on.

There is no specific directiongrouping at enrollment in textile engineering major. At the third year, students can choose one of the following professional directions for further learning.

1)Textile fabrics

This direction focuses on maintaining technical characteristics of textile engineering, constantly follows the development trend of modern textiles, meanwhile emphasizes cross-link of textiles and other subjects, so that students can be engaged not only in textile design and new product development, but also in the production organization, technical management, business and trade works.

Main courses: yarn design and practice, fabric design and practice, digital textile design, design basis of jacquard fabric, fabric dyeing and practice,industrial textiles, specialized English.

Employment: government departments, research institutes, textile trade-related enterprises, works of textile design, production organization, quality inspection and control. 

2)Textile mechatronics

Direction of textile mechatronics relies on the advantage of strong professional textile background, focuses on the electrical and electronic equipment application of textile machineryaround the textile production process and control automation and textile product design, and has its own characteristics of textile CAD and textile mechanical and electrical combination and development of digital and intelligent textile testing equipment. This direction trains multi-skilled engineering technology persons with a solid textile expertise,a strong ability in textile machinerydebugging and maintenance, textile electrical automation, automatic control aspects of textile technology, textile production information management and textile e-commerce.

Main courses: fundamentals and application of electrical control technology, computer application technology, low-voltage electrical control, textile NC detection technology, textile CAD, computer networks and interfaces, textile CNC machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic technology.

Practice Training:microcomputer program and operation, engineering training, specialized experiment, textile CAD computer practice, sensor technology experiment, DSP experiment, production practice, comprehensive training, graduate practice, graduate thesis (design).

Employment Prospects:maintenance and salesof textile machinery, textile trade, state-owned enterprises, customs, commodity inspection, national institutions, foreign-funded enterprises, private textile enterprises, research institutes and so on.

3)Knitting and Clothing

The specialty mainly involves knitting product design and performance, design the structures and styles of knitted garments, knitted forming technology and products. Students mainly learn to use of all types of textile fibers through various knitting processing methods to made into knitted fabrics and formed products, and then design and produce knitted garments, decorative fabric and research and development the high performance technical textiles for defense, aerospace, biomedical, construction and other industries. The courses are emphasized on knitting technology and products combined with clothing, and opened major basic courses with special features of knitted product design and knitted clothes design, to train students to acquire knowledge of knitting products and clothing, with the capability and innovation sprit in knitted product design and development and manufacture.

Main Courses: Textile materials science, knitting technology, design and practice of knitting product, knitting forming product design, knitted clothes style design, structural design and manufacture of knitted garments, knitted fabrics pattern design, textile color science, frontier of knitting specialty, et. al.

Practice Training:Computer operating techniques, engineering drawing and design, specialized experiments, analysis and design of knitted products and knitting processing, knitted garment manufacture, knitting CAD, productive practice, comprehensive training, graduation practice, graduation project and thesis, and so on.

4)Textiles testing and business

Textiles testing and business lays emphasis on the investigations of textiles structure & performance, and textiles testing & instrument. It mainly focuses on investigations on the structure, behavior and their relationships of fibre and its assemblies, and also researches testing methods and instruments as well as the theories of functionalization, digitization and network of evaluation technologies. In addition, it combines with the lessons of trading, business, trade laws, trade documents and marketing in order to train the students to grasp the knowledge of the structure, performance and trading of textile materials and acquire the abilities of textile materials testing, control and design and development as well as domestic and abroad trade of textile products.

The major in Textile Design emphasizes integration of art design, textile technology and engineering. Objectives of this major are to enable students execute textile design projects using a set of complex knowledge, including aesthetic design, functional design, color theory and CAD programs; and to provide a systematic training for students to enhance their capability of practice, engineering and innovation. Students in this major will not only have fundamental knowledge of textile engineering, aesthetic design principles, textile design methods, and technology, but they will also have potential to be interdisciplinary talents with innovative abilities, leadership consciousness and global perspective.

Textile International Trade is an interdisciplinary major combining textile engineering with economics and global trading. Students in this major will have a strong background in textile engineering, as well as global trading. Students could have potential to be interdisciplinary talents with sufficient knowledge and skills in textile technology, marketing, global trading, and economic cooperation.

Main courses:Global Trade, International Trade Affairs, International Trade Law, Marketing, an Introduction to Textile Economy. Foreign Business Letter, Foreign Business Communication.

7)High-tech Textiles

The submajor of Technical textiles emphasizes the combination of textile knowledge and technology, especially the technologies in the fields of smart materials and biomedicine. We aim to provide trained talents with not only the basic textile knowledge but also the special knowledge and technologies for technical textiles (smart materials and biomedical materials) in order to work at the positions for R&D, merchandise and technical services of technical textiles.
